OUR EYES THAT ARE EVEN MORE MY OWN
"OUR EYES THAT ARE EVEN MORE MY OWN" is currently a prototype. Designed originally in 2013, it is waiting for the right space and funding to become reality.
“OUR EYES THAT ARE EVEN MORE MY OWN” is an experience designed to create intimacy and alienation simultaneously. It is comprised of a large sphere with two doorways on opposing sides. Each doorway leads to a separate room where there is a half sphere, viewfinder, and indicated hand-placement on the wall. When each participant gazes into the viewfinder, they are looking into a small, white, ambient-lit sphere, their eyes directly in front of the other participant’s eyes. Their finger-tips touch through small holes in the wall, making their bodies and arms create another circle. Two small cameras, imbedded in the viewfinders, capture a live video stream of each participant’s eyes. The video streams are then projected to opposing sides of the large sphere in black and white, removing an aspect of their experience from its original context, and projecting it in a new way. Participants can only view their experience from their own vantage point, but they can view other’s experience taken out of context in real time.
